Breakfast at Al Dente
We recently opened a cafe in a laundromat, called Sega, where we focussed on takeaway food, takeaway coffee, easy grab and go items. It was fun, but it wasn’t true to us and our ethos.
We decided to bring the concept back to our home ground, in Carlton, Melbourne, by reinventing what a good breakfast should be. Eggs Benedict, Omelettes, Poached Eggs, Pancakes, Crumpets and even Lobster Buns.
We’re not a cafe, we’re not a hairdresser, we’re not a trendy brunch spot, we’re just doing what we love to do.
By putting throughtful plates of food and flavour together, we’re able to start your day right. Nutritious breakfast starts by sourcing local ingredients, and we’re proud to work with some of Victoria’s best.

Modern Italian Breakfast, Shaped By Melbourne
Combining Italian food traditions and Australian ingredients brings us to the Modern Italy. Where traditional Italian techniques are respected, and reinvented with the incorporation of global flavours.
Maybe we’ll use Japanese breakfast ingredients, or even French breakfast ingredients, but there’s one thing we can’t ignore about the city we’re in, Melbourne’s Best Brunch is part of our culture.
When asked, “what is Australian food culture?”, we respond with breakfast and international flavours.
